Identity: SmartPad, Inc., d.b.a. CalcuScribe, was founded January 1994. We are committed to increase literacy skills - namely, reading, writing, math and computer skills.

Product: CalcuScribe is our best ever! It's simple - does not require additional hardware or software to compose files and to, later, send them to a computer. It's the only product that allows you to perform calculations and do math in a word-processing-like environment. CalcuScribes can beam files to other CalcuScribes - perfect for collaborative learning or for one-on-one student/teacher interaction. With its elegant design, CalcuScribe sparks the imagination and users enjoy the product.

Philosophy: Information and tools empower students for a day but skills empower them for life! CalcuScribe helps kids develop writing, math, thinking, and computer skills.

Insight: It makes little sense to buy a computer for each child to teach typing, editing and writing skills when 6-7 CalcuScribes, costing about the same as a computer, can perform the tasks independently. CalcuScribes are portable. They don't require furniture, real-estate, electrical outlets, additional hardware, software or maintenance. Also, calculators do not save the data entered and one can't be certain if the result computed is correct. Students need to do arithmetic in a word-processing-like environment where they can revise the data and explain their work and results in plain English. CalcuScribe lets them do just that!
